Inside the Clubhouse...

 

Congratulations Antwan!

2007 Citywide Youth of the Year

Antwan has been a Club Member at our Columbia Park Clubhouse for 10 years. A senior at School of the Arts, he is deeply committed to giving back to the community and the Clubs. In addition to his teen staff duties, on an average day you can find Antwan providing program support to staff, teaching dance classes or serving as basketball coach at the Club. He has also served as emcee for events at the Clubhouse and helped to organize a fundraiser to send younger Club Members to Camp Mendocino.

Antwan also works with a variety of community groups to expose members to programs outside of the Club. Most recently, he helped to support Girls Got Goals, a local soccer league. Antwan has also been teaching classes and performing with Loco Bloco since 2004, a group he performs with as drummer and dancer.

 

At the Youth of Year celebratory dinner, surrounded by his friends, family and Clubhouse mentors, Antwan described his experiences at the Columbia Park Clubhouse over the past 10 years. 

"Outside of my home, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco has become my foundation and the stable environment that has allowed me to grow and overcome every obstacle that has been placed before me. Thanks to the Club, I have become a very responsible and confident young man. Overall, being a member of the Columbia Park Clubhouse taught me four valuable lessons in life: learning right from wrong, learning how to teach and mentor younger members, understanding who I am and the importance of community involvement."

As the Citywide Youth of the Year, Antwan receives a college scholarship from Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco. Antwan plans to attend Santa Monica College where he will study performing arts.
