BGCSF Hosts Education Summit
On Friday, January 26, BGCSF hosted an education summit, which was an all-day retreat for education directors, Clubhouse leaders and BGCSF executives. Learn to Succeed was the theme of the summit, which focused on how promoting education in the Clubs fits into a national framework of learning outcomes in youth development after-school programs.
"I believe the summit left staff inspired to drive the Education Initiative throughout the Clubhouses. Through our relationships we have with our youth, the quality programming we offer and the high expectations we set for our members, we can all help our members strive for academic and lifelong success," said Olivia Fernandez, Citywide Director of Education and Project Discover.
The group looked at best practices in the youth development movement and strategized on how to create a culture of learning and achievement in education at our Clubs.
"What I will take away from the summit is a new level of commitment to improving education at my club,” Dave Roe, Education Director at the Visitacion Valley Clubhouse.
Guest speakers included Sam Piha with Temescal Associates, Stacey Daraio with Community Network for Youth Development (CNYD) and Soilo Felix, the citywide director of education for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale.
